For your consideration is an Edwards Quadrate. This 7’ 0” 2/2 5wt rod is rare and exceptional in all original condition. All sections are straight and full length.
Dark flame-tempered cane with deep crimson silks and golden caramel tipping. The distinguishing script remains in place. The color of the agate stripping guide is a beautiful balance between the cane and wraps. Circular tenite winding check suggests this is a very early model rod, prior to the model designations too. All cork grip and reel seat with only slight ridging. The ferrule is size 11 with a perfect fit. The rod weighs 3.15 oz. – the weight convinced me this is a 4 wt but it loaded best with a 5wt for my casting style. In my hand, the action is medium-fast.
In the 1950s Sam Carlson acquired the Bill Edwards shop. This 7' 0" 5wt taper was Sam Carlson's favorite of the Edwards Quadrates.
