Powell, E.C. – 8' 0" Hollow Built

For your consideration is a seldom found 8' 0" length E.C. Powell B Taper bamboo fly rod. This is a 1950s hollow built 8' 0", 2/2, 5wt/6wt. weighing 4.0 oz. All sections are full-length and straight.

This rod consists of medium-tempered cane with brown wraps and intermediates. The wraps at the butt and hook keeper are tipped with ivory and black. The agate on the stripping guide is reddish-orange. The grip measures 6 1/2" in length with up-locking aluminum hardware over hard rubber reel seat spacer. The spacer remains in excellent condition. Often these are cracked because the wood beneath has expanded from moisture. The E.C. Powell Maker, Marysville, CAL in the aluminum remains boldly stamped and easily read. Size 13 ferrule with a perfect fit. In my hand, the action is on the fast side of medium-fast.  Steve Blake refinished this rod replacing the wraps and varnish. Includes the original army surplus bag and tube.
