W&M Granger–Model 9050 Special

For your consideration is a Wright & MCGill Granger 9050 Special grade bamboo fly rod in original condition. The 9050 is a 9' 0" three-piece 6'weight weighing 5.80 ounces. The blank is marked Granger Special.

Goodwin Granger Company and its successor Wright & McGill used an ammonia steam tempering process to achieve the rich coloring of the cane. The grip measures 6 3/4" in length and shows only minor ridging. The patented reel seat stamp is bold and deep with no wear. In my hand, the action is medium-fast bending deep into the butt section. My initial impression was this is refinished. But with the reel seat appearing near new, the cork being smooth, I inspected it more closely. The wraps appear to have had a thin over-varnish which is only apparent when viewing through an 8X loop. You can see where the original varnish had dried and started to lift on the edges of the silks.The female ferrule was rewrapped in a silk not quite matching the color of the other wraps.
