Mills & Son – De-Luxe 8'0" 5wt

For your consideration is a William Mills & Son De-Luxe bamboo fly rod made by H.L. Leonard. This is a 8' 0" three-piece for a 5-weight line weighing 4.55 oz. 

This rod consists of lightly tempered cane with golden brown wraps that match the color of the darker areas of the blank. The 5" grip is soiled but only has very minor ridging. The butt cap is stamped "De-Luxe / Standard / Mills & Son Makers, N.Y." The ferrule fit is as it should be. In my hand, the action is medium fast with a delightful dry fly feel – this feels like a 50DF. There is some wear to the cork where the thumb rests. When the current owner purchased this it was represented as having been refinished by Tom Maxwell.
