Payne, E.F. - 204, 4.6 oz.

  • An exceptional example of a 1930's Payne 204. Appears to have been in a time capsule for 80+ years. Butt cap reads E.F. Payne Rod.  E.F. Payne Rod Makers. This stamp was introduced in approx. 1925 and began fading out in 1932 but continued to be used for a few more years. Inspected by Marc Aroner and Steve Blake who both found no signs of having been refinished.

Diminutive red agate stripping guide. Original tube and bag with tag. Tag reads 4 1/2 oz. I have weighed it on two digital scales and both read 4.6 oz. A perfect 5 for my casting stroke. Bronzing of ferrules peaking through original black bluing. In the photo of the cork and reel seat you will notice a mark in the cork from a guide during storage and two small impressions on the reel seat. How well this rod casts is indescribable.
