For sale is a Rick Cunningham 7' 0" 4/5 weight 3/2 Gillum taper. Serial number 3002 built in 2002. These small Gillums are powerful and accurate and Rick makes them true to what has become a popular Gillum taper. The rod is in excellent condition. All sections are full length and straight.
Rick Cunningham apprenticed with Douglas Duck and carried on his tradition after Douglas Duck’s passing. Rick makes the rods close to copies of the original in appearance and the tapers are spot on to the original.
This rod features medium tempered cane in a rich honey tone complemented by brown wraps along with black tipping at the winding check and ferrules. Swiss-style ferrules with antique bluing have a perfect fit and resounding pop. The grip is moderately soiled but remains smooth. Rod weighs 5.0 oz. with the inclusion of substantial nickel silver uplocking hardware - similar to T&T – over a mortised walnut wood spacer that complements the wraps. In my hand, the taper is on the fast side of medium-fast. A great rod for punching flies into tight spots and having the power to handle larger fish. Original bag, tube, and brass cap.
