For your consideration is a Gauldoni bamboo packrod with bamboo ferrules. This is a 7' 6" 4/2 for a 4 weight line (some might like it with a 5wt) weighing 4.0 oz. Chuck Goldone, a Denver rod maker, signs his rods Gauldoni in honor of his family's original Italian surname. All sections are full and straight.
The rod features lightly tempered cane with amber wraps tipped blood red with an agate stripping guide. The torpedo grip measures 6 1/2" in length with a cap and ring over a handsome burled wood spacer. In my hand, the rod is on the fast side of medium-fast. Ferrules fit excellent and the wax Chuck provides with his rods conveys with purchase. This rod was fished twice on the Frying Pan and proved to handle 17" fish fine. Original tube and bag with stiffener.
From Chuck's brochure, "I thought it unwise to have to remove some of the strongest bamboo fibers to fit the ferrule to the rod. After much research and experimentation, I believe that I have found a better way to assemble a bamboo fishing rod. Because the bamboo ferrules do not impact the action of the rod as much, I handcraft 4-piece rods that cast and fish great."
Chuck charges $1,500 for his 4-piece pack rods.
