Leonard, H.L.– Model 50 1900s JVH

  • For your consideration is an H.L Leonard Model 50 raised pillar fly reel. This reel appears to be circa early 1900s and made for Leonard by Julius Vom Hofe. Pillar to pillar the reel measures 3" and has a rim diameter of 2 5/8" with a frame width of 1 1/4”. The reel weighs 6.90 ounces. The hard rubber face plate is stamped H.L. Leonard / Pat No. 191813.

It consists of hard rubber side plates with a nickel silver frame and nickel silver components; cross pillars, screws, rear cap, handle, and foot. The hard rubber side plates are free of cracks and chips. The reel is in excellent mechanical condition. This has a firm fixed check for a neutral wind. The release to deactivate the drag works as intended. Although it was not captured well in the photos, the H.L. Leonard / Pat No. 191813 stamp on the front plate is clear and complete.
