Saracione, Joe – 2 5/8" SCA

  • For your consideration is an early and rarely seen Saracione SCA (Saracione Classic American). This is a 2 5/8" diameter reel with a 1 5/8" frame width weighing 5.20 ounces. This model was the smallest one made with the quick release back plate to change out spools. Many feel this SCA model was one of Joe's best designs with the highest of engineering tolerances.

This has a handsome shaped S-handle, champagne color frame and spool, and black anodized aluminum side-plates. The SCA was made from 1985-1988. Preset gear and pawl drag design with what is very close to the same inbound and outbound wind and only defined by the fullness of sound. I feel it is set for left-hand wind but is easily interchangeable. There is a wedding cake tiered button on the back of the reel that is actually a release button for the back side plate. If you slide the button in towards the oil cap, then rotate the back side 45 degrees you can pull it straight out. There is one small mark on the underside of the rim which can be seen next to the counterbalance in the profile photo with the face plate on the right. With this one exception the reel is in like new condition.
