For your consideration is a Jack Schneider model 318.75 bamboo fly rod in original condition. The 318.75 is an 8' 9" two-piece with two-tips for a 7 or 8-weight line weighing 5.55 oz. Jack Schneider was a respected San Jose, California builder who built rods for friends. He was a champion distance caster and active member of the Golden Gate and Long Beach Casting Clubs. He also had a casting pond in his backyard. He learned the craft from E.C. and Walton Powell in the late 1940s. Jack was fishing partners with Ted Trueblood and made a few movies on fly fishing. He died from a heart attack in the mid 1950s at a relatively young age. His hand oiled and rubbed rods have a hammer style grip and a distinctive self-made aluminum reel seat.
This rod consists of medium tempered cane constructed in a 3x3 node pattern with copper brown wraps tipped dark brown. Up-locking self-made aluminum hardware. Ferrules completely set firmly. The rod appears to have not seen much use.
