Summers, R.W. – Model 8689

For your consideration is an R.W. Summers Model 8689 bamboo fly rod – 8’ 6” 8-9 wt. Serial no. 10397. The rod is in excellent original condition though there are a few minor scuffs in the varnish. One tip section was cracked and repaired by Bob Summers with a 1 3/8” wrap. At this time he made a third tip section. All sections are full length and straight.

Beautiful darkly flamed bamboo is complemented by translucent caramel wraps tipped black. The script maintains a clean and strong presence. Outfitted with down locking aluminum hardware with a 1 1/2” cork fighting butt and a well-modeled mortised spacer. The reverse half-wells ventilated grip has some soiling but is smooth. Size 17 ferrule . The rod weighs 6.15 oz. In my hand, the taper is medium-fast and full working. Original tube, bag, and tethered ferrule plug.
