Thomas, F.E. – 7' 6" Special with Tip Tube

    • For your consideration is an F.E. Thomas Special bamboo fly rod. This is a 7' 6" three-piece for a 4 weight weighing 3.55 oz. With the small guides, a silk line would feel and sound wonderful. Some might even like this with a modern 3wt line. This rod is pre-1910. All sections are full-length and straight.

This rod consists of medium-tempered cane with deep red wraps and intermediates with a diminutive agate stripping guide. Beautiful detail of closing the space between the intermediates above the first guide to the bayonet tip tops. The grip measures 5" in length before the cork spacer and nickel silver cap and ring. Size 14 and 9 ferrules with a perfect fit. In my hand, the action is medium-fast and full working deep into the butt section. Expertly refinished by Steve Blake. Includes the original tip tube with a replacement canvas bag. At one point someone used a heavy monofilament to keep the tube tops tethered to the tubes.

  • These shorter light Thomas rods are increasingly difficult to find.
