Payne, E.F. – Model 97

For your consideration is a rare EF Payne 97 bamboo fly rod with the original paper on the grip and an Abercrombie & Fitch price tag of $137.50. This is a 7' 0" two-piece for a 4-weight weighing 2.70 oz. This rod is in sublime condition.

This rod consists of medium tempered cane with chestnut silk wraps and gold tipping. All cork grip covered with the original paper with a ring and pocket butt cap. The butt cap is stamped "Sold by Abercrombie & Fitch." The ferrule is size 10 (9.8) with a perfect fit. Tips average out at 0.0705. In my hand, the action is medium-fast with a delightful light dry fly characteristic along with the buttery smooth aura of all Paynes. A rare find that belongs in a museum, or a well curated collection.
