Thomas, F.E. – 4-Piece Brown Tone

For your consideration is an original four-piece FE Thomas Special, Brown Tone bamboo fly rod. This is an 8' 0" four-piece 5 or 6-weight weighing 4.60 ounces. 

This rod consists of medium tempered cane with dark chestnut brown wraps. The 5 5/8" inch grip displays very little signs of ridging. The blued metal spacer has a sliding band. The bottom of the butt cap is stamped 35 suggesting this was made in 1935, before records are available. The stamp FE Thomas | Special | Bangor ME is fading but partially seen. Blued Swiss-style ferrules. In my hand, the action is medium-fast and lovely. Appears that a few wraps have an over varnish. Original tube with a replacement bag.
