For your consideration is an all original FE Thomas Special Brown Tone fly rod. This is a 9' 0" three-piece 6 or 7-weight weighing 5.50 ounces.
This rod consists of medium tempered cane with dark chestnut brown wraps. The 6 inch grip displays some ridging with more prominence near the reel seat – mostly on the underside of the grip. There is also a small piece of cork absent - see last photo. Hardy-style aluminum downlinking hardware. The stamp FE Thomas Special, Bangor ME is clean and boldly preserved on the nickel silver butt cap. The bottom of the butt cap is stamped with a 34 and what appears to be a triangle under the 4 along with possibly an offset 1. This could be "triangle 341. The blued Swiss-style ferrules are sizes 11 and 18 with a solid fit. In my hand, the action is medium-fast with more feeling in the rod than I expected.
Appears that a few wraps might have an over varnish. There are a few guide feet that are lifting with visible separation/cracking to the varnish. Minor gatoring in a few spots along with a few of the intermediate decorative wraps near the winding check missing. This just needs a little attention by a hobbiest. In all original condition with original bag and highly detailed cap and collar on the tube.
