Payne, E.F. – Parabolic 7' 1" Mahogany

  • For your consideration is a very rare E.F. Payne Parabolic 7' 1" Mahogany finish bamboo fly rod in original condition. This is a 7' 1" 2/2 4wt. weighing 3.00 oz. All sections are full length and straight.

Jim Payne produced his seldom seen Mahogany finished rods using a chemical process, not a stain. Those who knew Jim were aware he was a fan of Goodwin Granger. Possibly, he used an ammonia process to accomplish his unique Mahogany toning. I have not found anyone who has discovered his process documented. This rod is in all original condition. The last photo in the set shows the color of the Mahogany tone cane versus a standard Payne.

This rod consists of a beautiful Mahogany-toned cane with chestnut brown wraps and gold tipping. The all cork grip is clean and smooth. The cap is stamped "Made for Abercrombie & Fitch" which replaced the "Sold by" in 1963. The ferrule is size 10 with a perfect fit. In my hand, the action is medium with a delightful dry fly characteristic along with the buttery smooth aura of all Paynes. The rod is in all original condition. Includes the original bag, tube, and for added clout, the original hangtag.

Payment by check or money order required. If PayPal or credit card is preferred, an additional 3% will be added to the order.
