Thomas, F.E. – Special Mahogany 5-piece

For sale is an early F.E. Thomas Special Mahogany bamboo fly rod. This is a 9' 0" 5-piece weighing 5.35 ounces. These were referred to as Valice or Suitcase rods.

This consists of mahogany-colored cane with red intermediate wraps. Oxidized guides accompanied by bayonet tip tops. The 5" grip tapers to the cork reel seat. The nickel silver butt cap is stamped F.E. Thomas Special, Bangor, ME. In my hand, the action is medium approaching slow. I was expecting a 6-weight would work best but I was surprised how it handled a 5-weight line on the grass when picking it up. Restored by Steve Blake. Replacement bag.
